12 Call-to-Action Examples That Will Help You Sell More


While it might seem obvious what you want people to do in your online marketplace, (buy!) sometimes you’ve got to lead shoppers by the hand.

That’s where a strong call to action comes in handy! By telling people exactly what you want them to do, they are more likely to do it.

Use these call-to-action examples and ideas to turn lurkers into buyers.

1. Create a Sense of Urgency

You don’t want people to buy, click, or subscribe tomorrow; you want them to do it now! Use words that make people want to take action immediately:

  • Subscribe today to start saving immediately
  • Download your copy in seconds
  • Act now
  • Get immediate access to your free ebook

2. Use One Call-to-Action Per Page

The last thing you want to do is overwhelm people with too many commands on a single page or in an email.

Keep it simple, and limit your suggestions to one.

Here are some good examples. Pick one and save the others for another page.

  • Subscribe to our email
  • Buy this product
  • Download your free ebook
  • Click to learn more
  • Follow us on Facebook

3. Find Multiple Places to Use Them

The great thing about calls to action is that there are several places you can use them.

Just make sure you keep your messaging consistent across all channels.

For example, if you have one on your blog that says “sign up for our free shopping list,” make that the same offer on your website or email.

Use calls to action in:

  • Your promotional emails
  • Your monthly email newsletter
  • Your blog
  • Your website
  • Social media profiles

You can get creative in where you put them, too. If you give away a free ebook, you can include one at the end to sign up for your email list.

In your email, you can have a call to action to follow your brand on social media.

Creating a chain like this means people are more likely to connect with your business across multiple platforms, which means you increase the chances of them buying from you!

4. Make it Risk-Free

People are reluctant to give you their email addresses or click a link if they think you have devious plans (like you’ll spam them or the link will take them to a dubious site).

Make sure your wording makes it clear that there is no disadvantage to following the call to action, and that, in fact, there is a benefit in doing so:

  • Sign up to get your 25% off coupon (we promise not to spam you)
  • Buy your first box and love it, or get your money back!
  • Share us with your friends (but only if you love us)

5. Give People a Choice (But Not Really)

If you use popup boxes, take a lesson from Neil Patel and give people two choices: the obvious one provides benefit to people (“Help me save money”) and the other is something no one wants (“Don’t help me save money. I have enough.”).

It’s an effective strategy that can majorly boost your conversion rate because no one wants to look like the dummy who clicks the negative button.

With the right calls to action on your site, blog, email, and social media, you can nudge people to do exactly what you want them to do.
